G. Verdi’s opera about the greatness of a woman’s soul – the «Traviata of the Mirrors» directed by Henning Brockhaus became one of the most popular productions among the Kazakhstani capital’s theatregoers. On June 14, in the Astana Opera Great Hall a pupil of the People’s Artist of the USSR Bibigul Akhmetovna Tulegenova, international competitions laureate Gulzhanat Sapakova will debut in the role of the courtesan Flora Bervoix.

- Flora is playful, lively, temperamental, tenacious and calculating: she is firmly committed to her goals and uses all the means in her arsenal for success. She has a strength of character. Performing this role requires for the singer to have not only good vocal ability, but also great acting skills, – said Gulzhanat Sapakova.

On June 14, the Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhannat Baktay will perform the role of the mysterious and beautiful Violetta Valéry; the leading opera soloist Meir Bayneshov will convey the exuberant youthful ardor of Alfredo Germont, in love for the first time. The Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Musabayev will embody the image of a strict but caring father Giorgio Germont. On the conductor’s podium – the Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Abzal Mukhitdinov.

G. Verdi’s music draws an image of perfect, infinite love. The sounds of the noisy bustle of the ball, tremulous feelings of the heart, extraordinary spiritual purity, dreams of happiness, as well as the tragic theme of illness and death found expression in the brilliant score of the great composer. Impulsive, passionate lover of bold new plots Giuseppe Verdi has created a perfect image of the heroine, freedom-loving and loyal, capable of true love and self-sacrifice.

Bold, innovative sets by Josef Svoboda and picturesque splendor of the costumes by Giancarlo Colis will transfer the audience into the parlors of Parisian demi-monde of the XIX century. The mirrors gradually change the angle of reflection throughout the performance, and, at the end, the viewers will see their own reflections as part of the production.

According to the long-standing operatic tradition, the production features original choreography by the Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Tursynbek Nurkaliev and Valentina Escobar (Italy) that makes the opera bright, recognizable and draws theaudience into the action onstage.

The opera, based on the novel «The Lady of the Camellias» by Alexandre Dumas, fils, was first introduced at the Venetian Teatro La Fenice on March 6, 1853. Francesco Maria Piave became the author of the libretto. In Astana Opera, the premiere was held with great success on October 22, 2014.

The running time of the performance with two intermissions is 2 hours 50 minutes. Performed in Italian with supertitles in Kazakh and Russian.

The performance starts at 19:00, ticket prices range from 500 tenge.
