Earrings
South Kazakhstan. Silver, coral, turquoise, glass, bending, weaving, carving, filigree. A. Kasteyev National Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Syrga — drop earrings of a composite type, characteristic of the South Kazakhstan tradition of jewellery art in the 20th century. The piece is a ceremonial ornament and is distinguished by its elaborate vertical composition.Material: silver; decorative elements include inlays of coral, turquoise and coloured glass. The technique combines bending, weaving, carving and filigree, forming a complex openwork and relief structure. The structure consists of a multi-tiered suspended system mounted on a ring-shaped hoop. The upper section comprises two floral elements connected in series, with a connecting node and an elongated teardrop-shaped pendant situated below. All elements are hinged, ensuring the structure’s flexibility. The composition is built on an axial principle with a clearly defined vertical orientation. The main focal points are formed by floral rosettes with central turquoise inserts, surrounded by coral elements. The lower part is finished with a teardrop-shaped pendant featuring a large green glass insert, framed by a beaded border. The rhythm of the composition is set by the alternation of rounded and elongated forms. The ornamental scheme combines floral and geometric motifs. The floral elements are interpreted as stylised rosettes, traditionally associated with ideas of fertility and protection. The contrast between the brightly coloured inserts and the silver base enhances the decorative expressiveness. The use of filigree and granulation lends the surface an openwork quality and creates a shimmering effect when in motion.
