Mother, 2024. Composite. Oral
Manas Akkozhin
This portrait bust is executed in the tradition of psychologically rich sculpture, where the primary focus is on the inner state of the subject. The artist constructs the character through subtle modelling of the face: wrinkles, folds and the tension of facial expressions are perceived not as naturalistic details, but as traces of lived experience and the passage of time. The composition is devoid of external ornamentation and is entirely focused on the emotional expressiveness of the face. The gaze, directed to the side, creates a sense of inner reserve and concentrated reflection. The restrained modelling of the lips and the detailed rendering of the cheeks reinforce the impression of silent fortitude and a profound inner life. The transitions between volumes are rendered softly and seamlessly, thanks to which the form retains a vivid plastic conviction. The eyes carry the greatest emotional weight — they are the focal point of the composition. They embody experience, memory and a sense of inner strength. The absence of direct eye contact with the viewer reinforces the impression of a quiet inner dialogue. The material imitates patinated bronze, yet is used freely and flexibly, allowing for variations in the textural richness of the surface. The restrained colour scheme enhances the monumentality of the image and its timeless character.
