A Virtual Journey into the World of Kazakhstan’s Artistic Heritage

This Web Gallery presents the diversity of artistic practices in Kazakhstan, reflecting the continuity of cultural traditions and the dynamic development of contemporary creative processes. The virtual exhibition features works based on national images, symbols, and themes, as well as artworks by contemporary artists who reinterpret the country’s cultural heritage through contemporary artistic forms, expressive means, and modern technologies.

The work ‘The Heavenly Bridegroom’ is a dynamic, mythopoetic composition based on the archetype of the horseman as a mediator between the earthly and sacred worlds. The central figure with a whip organises the entire space of the work, creating a centrifugal movement in which the horses and ornamental lines form a symbolic vortex. This composition visualises the idea of the cyclical nature of time, the nomadic journey and cosmic movement.From a semiotic perspective, the image of the horseman takes on the characteristics of a demiurge or a mythological hero who rules over the elements and the celestial realm. The semi-transparent figures of the horses heighten the sense of unreality and emphasise that the scene belongs to the sacred ‘upper world’. Here, the horse serves as a traditional symbol of freedom, spiritual strength and humanity’s connection with the cosmos.The colour scheme is based on a combination of blue, golden and lilac hues, creating an effect of luminosity and spatial depth. The luminous outlines around the figures enhance the sense of a mythologised space and transform the composition into a visual metaphor for celestial movement and spiritual energy.
