A.Kasteyev State Museum of Arts celebrates its 80th anniversary

September 23, 2015. Almaty city. Today the press conference on anniversary documentary’s presentation and an album dedicated to the 80th anniversary is held in A.Kasteyev State Museum of Arts. The journalists, who take an active participation in museum’s life highlighting, are going to be granted throughout the briefing.

A.Kasteyev State Museum of Arts is the greatest museum of Kazakhstan and the Central Asia.  Ornamental arts and crafts of Kazakhstan, arts of Russia, arts of Western Europe (16-19th centuries) and modern foreign arts are presented in this museum. There are more than 24 thousand exhibits of painting, graphic arts, sculptures and ornamental arts there. The main museum’s mission is collecting, maintaining and presenting of world arts works to the wide audience of arts connoisseur.

Permanent museum’s exposition is only 30% of all the collections and it regularly renews; and now the citizens’ most favorite expositions of Sergey Kalmykov and Zhanatay Shardenov are widen. Moreover, some works of the senior and the best Kazakhstani impressionist Vladimir Eifert are in the museum room now.

The temporary exhibitions of works from museum fund are constantly held for arts connoisseurs, who want to be acquainted with the whole collection. Museum’s visitors have been able to see Durer, Rembrandt, Lukas Cranach and other European artists’ engraves of past ages in January and February this year. The unique works of Chinese, Japanese and Indian masters from museum’s collection are introduced on “Legends and myths of the Ancient East” exhibition in August and September this year. Retrospective exhibitions of Kazakhstani arts and graphic arts maîtres: Gulfairuz Ismailova, Yevgenii Sidorkin, Moldakhmet Kenbayev, Boris Pak, Nagimbek Nurmukhammedov and Zainitdin Yusupov, give opportunity to arts connoisseurs to be acquainted with the works that are not introduced in permanent exposition and store in reserve stocks.  Modern artists and art photographers from Kazakhstan and other countries are wide exposed on temporary exhibitions. Famous Kazakhstani businessman Nurlan Smagulov’s “Masterpieces of private collection” exhibition presents rich private collection of Kazakhstan decorative art. Except the expository and exhibitional activity, the museum provides wide scientific and educational work. Main aspect of museum’s work is an applicative and fundamental scientific research on Kazakhstan arts and methods of works of art maintaining and conservation. Educational activities include excursions, lectures, seminars, master classes, concerts and other innovative performances.

On 25-26th of September, the museum is held the International scientific-practical conference “Museum of the 21st century. Development strategy”. The representatives of leading museums and arts institutes such as the Hermitage, the Sotheby's, the Russian museum, St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the National Art and Design institute of Uzbekistan and others will take part in this conference. The opening of jeweler and designer Zokhra Doksi’s exhibition (Paris) is planned to be open on September 25 as a part of conference.
