Project «Restoration of historical sites of the Kultobe settlement»

This project is implemented on the basis of a Memorandum of mutual Cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the corporate fund «ERG Көмек» and «Kazakh Research Institute of Culture» LLP dated 16.07.2019.

The normative documents on the basis of which this project is being implemented are the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On Approval of the General Plan for the Development of the City of Turkestan as a Сultural and Spiritual Сenter of the Turkic World» No. 762 dated September 29, 2018 and the Comprehensive Plan for the Socio-Economic Development of the Turkestan region until 2024, approved by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 29, 2018 No. 938 (item 60). The implementation of the project is also reflected in the letter «On the development of Turkestan» of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Mamin to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. A. Nazarbayev dated 11.02.2019.

The Kultobe settlement is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Monuments of National Significance under No. 200 (Order of the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 88 of 14.04.2020) and is located in the buffer zone of the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi – an object included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

Project implementation period: 2019-2021

 

The aim of the project is a comprehensive historical and archaeological (excavation, conservation and partial restoration) and ethno-socio-cultural study of the ancient settlement of Kultobe in order to develop a scientific concept of an open-air archaeological park «Kultobe Settlement».

The project focuses on the archaeological and conservation and restoration research of the Kultobe settlement. The research is of a scientific and applied nature, aimed at the further development of domestic and foreign tourism.

 

Expected result:

As a result of the project, a scientific concept of a modern archaeological park will be developed, on the platform of which further scientific and applied research will be possible.

The scientific significance lies in the discovery of unknown pages of the history and culture of the Turkestan agglomeration based on the study of the Kultobe settlement – the historical forerunner of the city of Turkestan.
