Almaty hosted the yurt festival

In Almaty was hosted a grand celebration of the traditional Kazakh dwelling – yurt. Almaty Chamber of Crafts, association of organizations supporting the development of the Central Asian Crafts «CACSA» and Almaty UNESCO Office organized the event in conjunction with the inclusion of the yurt to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

Portable wireframe dwelling with felt covering was widespread among Turkic and Mongolian nomads. For the Kazakh people yurt is not only convenient device, but also a symbol of the family and hospitality.

Every guest of the event was able to take part in the assembly and decoration of the yurt, taste hot baursaks and play favorite children's game asyk.

Recall that last year November the Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO included art of traditional Kazakh dombra kyi performance and manufacturing skills of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz yurts (Turkic nomadic people) in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
