«Kazakh language in the urban environment» roundtable meeting

March 18, 2015 in Almaty hosted a roundtable meeting devoted to the problems of the Kazakh language in the urban environment, with participation of the Head of Almaty Language Department M.K. Ahetov. The event was organized by the Committee on language development and socio-political work of the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakh Research Institute of Culture, Private Fund of Mels Yerzhanov and Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynuly. Initiator of the event was Researcher of Kazakh Research Institute of Culture, «Mels Yerzhanov» Private Fund Director Zemfira Erzhan.

During the discussion, participants put forward a proposal to introduce a new specialty - advertiser in Kazakh language. Participants of the discussion believe that the new profession will resolve the problem of poor translation of advertising texts into the state language.

«As a solution to the problem we are considering the introduction of a new specialty - advertiser in Kazakh language. The specialist must learn not only the language but also the Kazakh culture. He has to create an advertisement for the Turkish-speaking citizens, » - said the Deputy Director of the Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynov Anar Fazylzhanova.

According to her words, a specialist who speaks Kazakh language at a high cultural level, not only improve the appearance of the city, but also increase the sale of goods and services. Fazylzhanova noted that there is no terminological committee in Kazakhstan and we have to work in this direction.

Senior Researcher of the Institute of Linguistics named after A. Baitursynov Nurgely Uali offered to reform the philological education: «For example, Russian philologist has 42 branches: philologist-speech therapist, philologist-referent, philologist-advertiser and so on. Unfortunately, we are taught by traditional Soviet system. The need of our society in official language is major.  However, the number of philologists who could satiate those necessities is a little. »

According to the Head of Almaty Language Department M. Ahetov, the city administration is ready to cooperate with the organizers of the round table to improve the quality of the state language in the visual information of the city.
